I’m not seeing anything in the way of classes for the metal lathe. It’s been well over a year and 2 or 3 lathes ago since I took my class so I’d like to take the lathe class again as I have a part I want to machine out of a used truck push-rod.
Can I get a 1 on 1 re-certify from a machinist mentor? Or can we get a lathe class into the event schedule please?
Gentlemen,
There were two lathe classes in December and two in January, with two of those with three or less persons attending. Still, we will likely have another class or two in February. If you are a qualified user, but feel unsure due to long period of inactivity in the machine shop or have never used the current lathe, any active machine shop committee member present can give you a refresh on the current lathe. If you have extensive lathe experience from else where but have not completed the DMS lathe class any of the current lathe teachers (Nick Silva, David Kessinger, Jerry Kasselbaum and myself) can test you out and bring you up to speed on our lathe’s controls and idiosyncrasies in about 15 minutes; also put your name on the users AD.
Also, if you have a simple operation on a simple part that is jamming up a large project’s schedule, I can either do that part for you or the doing of it jointly can be a part of a one on one machine side class.
