Hey, I didn’t see a basic sewing class on the event calendar. I really want to pick up sewing… Help?
Paging @Kriskat30 and @dryad2b
+1 on this!
I think there was some posts a few weeks ago saying the main person teaching the sewing classes was unable to anymore. They were trying to get someone to help out.
I think there is a sewing group, but I think its more of a hang-out for more experienced people than a class atmosphere.
I think the post you’re thinking about from a couple weeks ago was more that a new sewing teacher had left. But we still have at least a couple regular folks (paged above) that are at the space a lot and will put together a class if there’s enough interest or do a one-on-one if needed
The “hangout” more experienced group you’re probably thinking of is likely either independent folks coming in working on projects like cosplay, sometimes several things happening in the room at once and it might look like folks coordinated but it’s more coincidence orrrr it IS actually a deliberate hangout we do sometimes with fiberarts and there’s often sewing people there in the evenings too. Afaik, the sewing folks don’t specifically do an organized hangout. Although that just takes someone getting the ball rolling
I am a noob to sewing. Kris got me going with one class.
Not doing any major work and I am surprised how handy a skill it is to have.
Thanks @Kriskat30!
Well, there is the Dallas Makerspace Sew and Sews on Facebook. I put a class in beginning and mending out in September, but it’s already full. I’ll see about putting another one a bit later. Actually, I may put one at the end of August, now that I’ve checked the date for AnimeFest.
And keep checking the classes even if they show full. If somebody cancels, then there will be another spot.
Right… I wouldn’t mind a “one on one” session… this isn’t my first time sewing. I need a refresher.
If someone needs a 'this is how the machine functions rundown, chances are I can do that if I’m around.
Ohh, I just glanced at the thread. I probably should have read it closer!
I thought it was more of just a hangout, but I went in to ask a question and was fussed at for ‘interrupting the class’. I didn’t see anything on the calendar so I chalked it up to a sewing hangout.
When are you likely to be around? While the teachers get frustrated because of the requests for one-on-one because that dilutes the classes so that they don’t “make”, and Creative Arts missed out on the honorarium, there’s no reason that you need the class if you just want to know how our machines work.
I’ll be there tonight for a class at 7pm. However, I can be there anytime Monday-Thursday, if you wanted to schedule something.
I’m here now and can show anyone how to tonight
How late will you be in ? I have a class that doesn’t end until 9pm.
I’ll be here late as usual
Well! I can’t wait to meet you, and thank you for your time! see you there!
