Need help with a frame

I’m looking for someone who would teach me to make frames for signs I’m making with my laser. Yes, I know I can watch YouTube videos which I have done but I understand best with showing and doing. I am cleared to work in the woodshop. Is there anyone willing?

@Hardsuit ?

Yea, so best way is the sliding saw stop miter gauge! When are you available to learn! It’s really the only way to get dead set on perfect 45s and I’ll show you how to calibrate and what variables you wanna make sure are set to what, what exact measurements to do so! Just know they is no exemptions,If something needs to be 90.00 89.99 will not work if all boards need
to be 100mm thick from tip to tip there is no le way to get it right but I can teach you what to dial in, what to dial it to and how to get perfect miters

That sounds great! I’ve turned down several jobs because of the frame. This week I’m available Tuesday or Thursday evening, Wednesday, Friday afternoon or Saturday. I certainly appreciate it.

Do you ever do small classes on this? I have some art I bought that I can’t find frames in store for so I’d rather DIY that pay the ridiculous prices at the craft store. It’s been a while since I did anything more than a standard cut on the table though. Would this technic work if glass is desired?

Are you available this week to help me with a frame?

Ehhhhh thatd have to be run through woodshop to certify me as an instructor! But really honestly the key is, parallel and perpendicular surfaces, slow steady firm pressure, clamping it so it doesn’t move under the intense micro vibrations! No and I mean no leniency to angles or degrees! These numbers have to be EXACT and the first time it may take you and hour to get those number set up perfectly but you get fast i promise! And 4 is a saw blade cuts 2 times ones when you push the wood through it, and again when you pull the sled back! STOP THAT! Push the wood through the blade, turn then the machine off let the blade stop then retract the jig! Many people cut perfect 45s only to pull it back with the blade running and it trimming and half a degree or something more of wood!

What times would you be free?

I’m free Thursday evening, Friday afternoon or Saturday.

Thursday evening sounds great! “They call me the night shit” literally!
What type of wood are we using? My recommendation is soft or hard maple, easy to work with dense enough to do the job, smooth grain pours almost stark white so not really my area of expertise but you could strain or dye it any color very easily!

Also side note I used liquid hide glue from like back in the 50s that you have to melt so this piece will be dry to handle in an hour and fully dry in roughly 12
Not that it matters but reason why is cause tight bond or pva glue is water based so you apply it the wood expands just fact water based anything and wood equals expansion
Liquid hide glue does have some water to it. But it’s hot HOT so with heat you get contraction so as the joint cools it’s gets pulled closer rather than pushed further the more the tighbond one soaks in

I’ll get a sheet of maple then. I get off at 5 and it takes me a little over an hour to drive there. So around 6:15 or so if that’s okay. Thank you!!!

Oh, no, I know it’s possible but making frames with plywood is 10x harder cause it’s a sandwich of wood all with different grains and lots of binding glue! I’ll bring some hard maple I have that’s good stuff, free of charge! Just so I know we’ll get the end results we need

Bless you!!!

Oh head up, we will need to use the drum sander for this! I will not be showing you how to use it, I will not be giving you the code, lol I won’t even say why we’re using it! I don’t have that authority and that machine is my literal lifeline for my personal work! So if wanting to replicate the results we get together solo, reach out to woodshop and they’ll be happy to get you trained and certified to use it, just I cant be the one to do that!

I’m reposting this request…Is there anyone who will show me how to build a frame for a sign (gift) I’m making? I’ve watched YouTube videos but they all seem to use a special sled which I don’t have. I have been cleared to use the woodshop.

Posting this again, when would you like help

I’m free Thursday evening, Friday afternoon or Saturday. I sure would appreciate the help. Thank you.

No problem, happy to help, refer to the other thread for a couple questions thought I have

Understand!
