I’d like to fill the holes in these knobs with some sort of black resin. It’s for nothing but aesthetics so I don’t want to spend much to do it. The knobs will never need to unscrew from the all-thread (already red loctited on). I need a few CCs at most to do four of them. Any ideas? Is there something I can add to regular epoxy to do this?
Use regular 2 part epoxy, but add just a little bit of black acrylic paint. It will tint the epoxy to a nice opaque black. Start with just a little bit of paint and mix really well, and then slowly add more until you get the opaqueness you want. Avoid adding too much or it won’t dry right. For my purposes I use about a tbsp of paint for a solo cup full of resin.
Edit, craft paint! Not heavy body artist paint! The cheap stuff like apple barrel or craftsmsrt in the little 2 oz bottles in CA work best.
I’ve used Testors enamel paint to tint epoxy for knife pins. A couple of drops per Every couple of tablespoons of resin (less than you think).
Note that the addition of the enamel causes the epoxy to kick off more quickly: I got perhaps 5 mins working time with 20 min epoxy. I did black and turquoise in different batches.
PC-7 2 part epoxy is black.
A quick/easy fix would be to just melt some black crayon into the well with a long lighter.
