The black hard plastic part inside my daughters fender is torn loose from the frame. I want to laser cut some type of grommet to reinforce the hole and epoxy it so I can attach the inside back to the frame. Any advice on what type of plastic I can use? It needs to be tough but just a little bit pliable so I can bend around the curve of the fender.
Abs or polycarbonate are probably good candidates. Abs gets more brittle in the cold but is cheaper. The issue is that it neither of these is able to be laser cut.
Acrylic which can be laser cut is probably too brittle
Based on the above recommendations, it might be possible to cut a grommet from those using metal shears. Just a thought.
Can you 3D print a grommet out of ABS?
I had this happen a while back and I just used some self-tapping screws to stick it back down with. Not the cleanest solution, but it took less than 5 min.
It’s an add for their particular products, but HF offers, well, HF versions of these products…
Just a bandsaw and a drill should work fine.
It might even be able to be solvent welded since many car fender pieces are fiberglass reinforced abs
