NaNoWriMo - 6 weeks away!

Anybody out there going to do NaNoWriMo this year? Maybe we can have some write-ins or get togethers in Nov. to keep each other inspired and caffeinated.

Maybe get to together and talk about outlines, plotlines, etc. before 00:00:01 November 1st!

Maybe. Although I don’t feel like writing at the space is possible. Too many distractions for me. But if there was a regular meetup I’d come on occasion.

Sounds interesting, do you have any links so I can check it out?

What is NaNoWriMo? National Novel Writing Month

Short version, being or the first second of November to the last second of November, the goal is to write a 50,000 word novel, from “A dark and stormy night … The End”.

It will be a piece crap, bad grammar, misspellings, etc. (I turn off spell & grammar checker so as to not be seduced to stop the flow). But it will be a completed novel. After a recovery period, you can go back to edit, rewrite, edit, make corrections, etc. A guy name Chris Baty, started in July 1999 with 21 participants, but by the 2010 event, over 200,000 people took part and wrote a total of over 2.8 billion words.

What he had found lots of people START novels but never FINISH because they keep going through endless rewrites.

I’m not looking for “Working Writing Sessions” where you’re actively writing, but something like where you discuss I’m stuck on a plot point, etc. keep each other motivated. That sort of thing.

I’ll help mentally where I can.

That’s fascinating as November is also NaKniSweMo (National Knit a Sweater Month) the goal being to knit an adult sized sweeater of at least 50,000 stitches! (Sorry, kind of off-topic)

Not sure that’s off topic if you combine the two using, for example, the techniques of Madame Defarge. How big of a Phrygian cap would be needed for a 50,000 word novel?
Oh wait, that’s not a sweater…
Maybe a Phrygian hoodie?

Interesting factoid. I doubt even a freezing animal would forfeit its dignity to wear what I’d knit.

Ever seen a cat forced to wear a sweater - no matter how well knit? I’d say they’re willing to sacrifice more than their dignity to be rid of unwanted garments…

My personal disdain is for people putting bandanas, usually red, around dogs necks.

I remember when it became the canine fashion craze to do so on the beaches in Southern California, in the 1960’s as owners threw Frisbees for them to catch. Somehow blacklabs were deemed particularly rakish to sport such garb.
