This Saturday, from noon to five, a rag-tag crew from the Creative Arts, Ceramics and Electronics committees will be divesting our respective committee spaces of donated consumables that we just don’t have room to accommodate. (feel free to come be a rag-tag part of the crew! We dish, we gossip, yada-yada…)
In lieu of pricing the stuff (and thereby discouraging limited-budget makers), we have adopted an alternative “donate what you can afford to pay” plan, benefitting the DMS Fellowship Fund. This particular fund has been depleted for some time, but could be doing some nice things for our membership if we could get the numbers back up. We’ll have a QR code available that links to making a donation via PayPal to the Fellowship Fund. Alternatively, you can place a cash or check donation into an envelope, write “donation to Fellowship Fund” on the outside and hermetically seal said envelope.
We are holding the shindig out in the back parking lot, so that those of you who are not yet comfortable being around other people can peruse in open air.
If it rains… maybe we won’t last until five pm… Or maybe we’ll set up shop in the “future” automotive area at the north dock (the one without the “honk” signage).
Creative Arts goodies:
(1) This will be the last opportunity to snag some goodies from the amazing fiber stash that Jeannie Harwell’s husband donated. These photos were taken of the bin-loads a couple of weeks ago. Obviously, some fiber has been appropriated since these photos, but presumably there’s still a good selection to choose from. We will have the bins in numeric order outside (vs. the ragtag piles on the shelving at the moment…)

(2) We’ll also be adding some BIG grab-bags of leather samples that we received from Gulfstream (the personal jet people). Mostly squares, ranging in size from about 5" to 12". There are also several bags of black utility leather scraps. If you want to make small zipper bags, coasters, this could be your lucky day! If you want to make yourself a leather jacket, not so much. Unless, you’re the size of a Barbie doll. In sorting through the eight boxes, I also found one full of laminate and veneer samples, an entire box of large lightweight vinyl samples (most in pale greys/beige tones) and another box of upholstery scraps.
(3) Lastly, some heinous elf left a giant collection of stuff as a donation on the bowling table. It appears to be a large plastic tub filled with dried grass, a few decorative baskets, and a ton of scrapbooking stuff, including a big rolling case. It will be at the garage sale as well. What you don’t take, will then be looking at life from the dumpster. (PLEASE. Don’t leave donations without the approval of the committee chair.)
Ceramics goodies:
(1) Slip molds that don’t have a fan club (I.e. nobody asked that they remain in the collection)
(2) Finished pieces that have outgrown their current owners likes/dislikes, yet still want to be loved.
Electronics goodies:
If you’ve been to the space since we reopened, you may have noticed the mountain of storage tubs filling the former 3D fab space. All of those tubs are filled with electronic treasures that came to us when Tanner Electronics closed their doors forever earlier in the year. The committee has been chipping away at inventorying the contents of the bins, and have identified some items that won’t fit into the committee collection of consumables. So - these will be up for “acquisition.” (see Beth’s post below for a more technical description of the garage sale items.)
Edited to update info about leather items and unsolicited crap.
