Morse tap set 1/4 x 20 tap chipped - replacement ordered

The Machinery Handbook that is keep out there on the gray workbench also has almost anything you’d want to know that concerns machining.

Also, when looking at hole sizes for taps, be sure what material it is referring to, there is usally a difference between Steel and Aluminum/soft metals. Soft metals having a smaller diameter hole so there is more thread engagement.

@wandrson @nicksilva @John_Marlow Do you know if we have the broken tap remover:

Sorry, I don’t know.

Well, I’ll think this is a wish list item. They are really handy for recovering a tap snapped off below the surface.

Bit arrived and I hand delivered today at lunch.

I have the old one with me. Will bring it back next time i’m up which might be tonight/tomorrow.

You could grind the old one past the chip with a flat bottom, which would restore it to usefulness by converting it to a bottoming tap.

To one of the questions above, this usually applies more to larger sizes, but some taps are available in sets of 3, each of which take out about 1/3 of the material if used in order.
