Miter saw not working

I used the miter saw to make several cuts this morning without incident. I went back to make another cut, and the saw seemed to be working fine. It made it about an inch and a half through a two-inch cut, then the blade stopped, as if it was no longer getting power. However, the light still works, so some power is still coming to the saw. I am posting this here first, and now I’m going to put in a ticket.

Maybe motor brushes? A disgruntled member sent an email to PR asking when the saw will be back. When you have an idea can you reply here and I’ll forward it to them?

Send them a disgruntled reply about uptime

Did it spin down slowly, or did it act like the spindle brake had engaged?

That would tell you if it was the brushes (slowly spin down) or a bad wire to the motor (spindle brake).

Although my memory could be imperfect, I think it spun down slowly. Not sure about that, however.

Is anyone there to see what model saw we’ve got? The brushes are like $15, we should order a set regardless because we’ll need them eventually whether or not the brushes are an issue today.

Its a Dewalt DWS780. I did the bandsaws, ceiling tiles, and Jointer last night. Didn’t make it to the miter saw. Will try tonight. It’s probably brushes, but not sure.

Disgruntled? Tools break. The miter saw does not appear to be a user error, it just gets hammered every day.

The dewalt factory service center is right up the road from us at:

Factory Service Center #14
1300 N I-35E Ste 112
Carrollton, TX 75006

Might have the brushes in stock.
