Midnight Makers Classes (Pens, lasers, etc...)

I had someone offer to teach a late night pen turning class if I can find two more interested parties. Anybody game?

I know as soon as the new laser is up, I’d like to see classes on it, the new small laser and the lasersaur if we can find a night owl instructor.

What classes would you like to see later at night?

I’m also interested in a nighttime pen turning class.

Do i need to take woodshop 101 to take a pen turning class?

Specifically no. But you do need to take the Lathe Basics class. The Lathes are treated separately from the saws, and the CNC router. Woodshop divides the training up based on the special knowledge requirements to use the tools. The Woodshop basics class, is really all about saws (saws, jointer, planer, sanders, etc) and is a 2.5 hour class depending on size. The Lathe class is a completely different set of knowledge, and takes about 1.5 hours to complete. The CNC is more about generating tool paths and the capabilities of the machine and software, and is a 4-hour class.

Maybe a midnight lathe basics class might be needed before the pen turning class… I used a lathe many years ago but have not since joining DMS.

I took the lathe basics class two weekends ago and the woodshop basics the weekend before that, so I’m ready for a pen turning class.
