Metalshaping SIG/Course Info

Hi all,

Location of powerpoint from class is on the Committee drive on the jump server. I highly suggest watching the videos provided in the links if you are interested in metalshaping. All of these people I have either met personally or heard good things about and all of them are excellent metalshapers.

you can locate it on the DMS jump server.
its in: N:\metalworking\Sheet_Metal_Shaping

if you need to access the jump server you can do it from your house:

We can discuss the SIG in the next metalshop meeting. In the meantime, I will put up several surveys on talk about what kind of classes people want to see.

Thank you for your interest and for attending the class.

I hope to you in future events.

Normally I would just post the file to talk but its too big even when put in a zip.

Tools/needs that can be made or purchased in the future for a SIG:
Basic tools:
Sandbags (smaller than ones I made)
Stumps (we are good here)
Tucking forks/arbor press pucks/dies (can be made at DMS)
Base for the bead roller (semi truck brake drum or tractor plow disc is preferred)
post dollies (can be handmade or machined from random steel pieces)
body dollies (can be made)
body hammers/slappers (bought or made)
beading dies/tipping dies (can be machined as needed)
Wood or Steel bucks for demo purposes (project based)
Hammerforms for demo purposes (project based)
Torches(City Fire Marshall rules are prohibiting this but if you have one and want to bring it in for demos it would be fine)
Shrinking disk (purchase)

Other considerations/possible projects:
Space (wherever DMS board gives us…I would like a specific area though)
power hammer (for sheet metal not blacksmithing…less bang) (this would be a cool big metal/machining project- obviously not needed)
motorized bead roller (would also be a big cool machining project)

Max, I enjoyed your course last night although I was disappointed you couldn’t get your ppt working. Unfortunately, this happens more often than it should in that classroom.

Second, thank you for putting up the ppt. I’m downloading it now.

Lastly, I’m interested in helping with tool creation especially in the machine shop and the metal shop (welding). I am in no way an expert but I have taken the classes. I have some time since I’m retired but I have lots ot irons in the fire (pun intended).

I donated some leather which would probably work pretty well for the sandbags.
