Metal Shavings request

Hello all you glorious machinists.

Is anyone going to be working any projects in the next few weeks that will leave a reasonable sized pile (think 5x5x3 or so) of copper/brass/aluminum shavings that I could have? I have some ideas for resin casting some turning blanks using the shavings. Thanks!

There is a tote next to the HAAS with aluminum shavings in it. Feel free to take what you want, All we ask is that you dont leave a mess. However there may be some other materials mixed in with it.

awesome, thank you! plus 20

Most notably there will also likely be cutting oil or coolant mixed in.

I figured that might be a possibility and I can attempt to wash that off. Hopefully it wont affect the casting too badly.

spray them with brake clean (the non tree hugger kind) and they will dry in seconds and be oil and residue free.

I never have copper shavings but I do often generate small pieces of 24 or 26 gauge sheet copper
I always hate to pitch thme but havent come up with a use for them either

I’m thinking larger pieces would have the potential to tear out, but I have considered taking some of my scraps and slicing it down to thin shavings. Was hoping I could just take someone else’s “trash” and save the effort.
