@Cairenn_Day had put a membership meeting on the schedule in Interactive. Event is still listed, but is it still happening? Cant really be a “meet the candidates” soirée, because @Lampy will be in Lewisville presenting at the Lewisville Soup thing that @uglyknees is coordinating.
I hope it will be. give us all a chance to get caught up on happenings.
It’s still early for a “meet the candidates” since the whole thing got pushed back a month.
there is still time for people to sign up!
Yep, did not know those collided. Also wonder why it was set for 7pm, isn’t the standard 8pm?
From the wiki:
On the 2nd Friday of each month, there will also be an Official Monthly Membership Meeting at 8:00pm. Official meetings involve committee reports and voting on matters concerning the Makerspace. The agenda for Official meetings is locked at Midnight on the Sunday preceding the meeting. Agendas for each meeting can be found on this page.
The wiki is wrong.
I made an agenda item moving the Member Meeting time to 7pm, same as Board Meeting. It passed. But the wiki did not get updated.
Theres a standard? When it doesnt even take place a majority of the time?
Thanks for the shoutout! #lewisvillesoupferlife This Friday !!! https://www.facebook.com/groups/1967394373570281/
@Lampy you can make a video about your program if you would like and I can show it at soup or you can send someone to pitch for you if you need.
It’s still scheduled, per the rules.
Just no one shows up because there’s nothing to vote on, because no one shows up, because there’s never anything to vote on… And so forth
I have been at many member meetings during the last year
It is still happening, I will be there
I would love to hear from Expansion as well as other committes
If you can provide me a meeting date or minutes or link that I can cite in the wiki edit history, I’ll be glad to update the wiki.
EDIT: I searched the old minutes and found it. 3/23/2018. I updated that reference in the wiki. I had already fixed it on the outward facing website. Problem is … no telling how many redundant places it is cited. In the meantime, I wonder if the rest of that paragraph is still correct? I am surprised to see the monthly member meeting agenda locked on the prior Sunday.

The reason it was meant to be cancelled is that we cannot hold member meetings without mailing out letters for notice to all voting members. Our attorney said that it may not be necessary if there wasn’t to be a vote. So, it must just be an informal meeting because there was no notice sent within the time allowed. It might be official but it isn’t an official membership meeting. This is one of the changes to the bylaws that several of us are working on.
Do you mean an official annual meeting?
I hope so. Because we aren’t required to hold more than the one annual membership meeting. The rest are update meetings
My jaw was dropping at mailing meeting notices 12x times year.
Is there a place the agenda is posted so I can see what will be discussed?
Yes… official notice is required for every regular membership meeting and in fact any membership meeting at the moment and that means mailing out to all voting members.
But we can waive the requirement for regular meetings if we can get a bylaw change…
I’m confused, I’m looking at Bylaws - Dallas Makerspace and don’t see anything about physical mail outs for regular meetings, only for special meetings.
Can you point me to the specific section of the bylaws where you’re getting this from?
It is a requirement of the law.
You can read more about it here …
That references the laws here …
We can bypass it under Section 22.157. SPECIAL BYLAWS AFFECTING NOTICE. (a) A corporation may provide in the corporation’s bylaws that notice of an annual or regular meeting is not required.
If we have it in the bylaws.
We went through all the possibilities of giving official notice in our current state and the only two that currently available are a mailing and in person.
