Membership, classes and add-ons

Continuing the discussion from 7/19 Glaze and Sgraffiti class:

A makerspace can be viewed as an experiment in social engineering. As with most engineering fields, tradeoffs are involved.

There was a time when many members added on all of their children. Today, not as much. Possibly because the cost of adding on has gone up. Possibly because there is a prevailing attitude that because those under 16 cannot use any tools and cannot drive, they should not be allowed to be a member.

On the other hand, a member account is required to register for members-only classes. Some of these classes clearly have appeal to those under 16. For example, the one which inspired this post is for ages 13+ but requires membership: Events |Dallas Makerspace Calendar

The concept of member & non-member pricing for classes has been discussed. As Amex said, membership has its privileges.

I am not talking about pricing at all except for the member price being whatever it is and the non-member price is >∞.

Should minor children be allowed to be members to register for classes or not because they should not have a key fob?
