Making a Brass Bolt because my truck hates me

I haven’t been able to take a class for the sherline mill yet.

More stable making the head beforehand? How so?

I’m only suggesting that if you want to hold it vertically in the lathe chuck while you mill the hex, you don’t want to reduce the shaft size before you do that.

Oh, when using the lathe chuck of course, but I only took it back to the lathe after the initial turning since I realized I had made a mistake leaving out the chamfer.

The rotary head would have been great for it though.

I know it’s necromancy, but I have an update.

After 15 months, BrassBolt has retired from service.

It did a fine job holding together the engine mount and skid plate on the passenger side. However, since the plate had to come off for some hose work decided it’s finally time to replace it with a proper bolt.

It held amazingly well given the hell I put this truck through on the farm chasing hogs and generally enjoying the mud.

Join me next time when I decide to make a weird fastener out of a weirder material when I make some explosive bolts out of Delrin
