MakerTrade: 3D Scan and Case Design - $$

When’s the deadline.

We’re trying to get prod ready in time for QuakeCon. So best case the weekend before July 25.

I can get you an as-is stl of a case if you can provide it. I can make a CAD model, but that’s a lot extra. I can do modifications, but would prefer not to.

Have you contacted the manufacturer directly?

Also it looks like their international distributors still have them in stock:

Edit: Would this work?

Thanks for finding those. The open air ones are good for one off projects. Where we’re building large scale clusters of these so the closed cases at needed.

I’ll have to see if the international sellers has the double sized ones but the last time we talked with the OEM these cases where discontinued. Plus if one looks at the pi cluster we have in vcc the original cases need upgrading to support cable management.

Ideally we would just need the cad/stl files instead of trying to hunt for out of print products.

They let you take in only one computer per BYOC attendee.

Thanks, found those last night. They’re not shipping to the US and even the US version of the site has issues.

Like I’ve said; we’re needing something like these but better and the end deliverable is the STL/Cad files.

What the QuakeCon '19 project?

Separate item. This is primarily for the CommunityGrid project.

Seems like they work:

You want a manufacturer to GIVE you files for creation of something they sell and make money off of?

The CAD models are public:

Since you said the deadline for this is QuakeCon I assumed it was related.

Understandable  and may be slightly in the mark for the servers that’s running things but not the units that’s going to QuakeCon.

I saw this on Reddit. Kinda neat for a Raspberry Pi cluster if you don’t specifically need the DIN rail.

Luke, your amazing. That’s perfect for quakecon or other conventions we go to.

Still need to use the din rail since wall space is nearly infinite and deskspace is non existent.

I can confirm it’s a nice compact rack
Here’s one I built a while back with m3 screws. As a warning, some of the parameters are not consistently used. For example, it defaults to m4 screw, but the hole diameter variable is used as a constant in several places instead of the variable.

The printed 2020 extrusions also work surprisingly well

If we combine that case and its compainion parts with the following things:

then modify / hack this one so it can mount the rack enclosure:

Well have a complete solution.

I remixed the rail mounting clip that you linked to match the bolt pattern of the rail pieces used in the 6" rack enclosure. It’ll take a M4 screw, and has a 2.5mm counter bored hex (7.25mm) on the inside of the rail side. This will keep a M4 screw head from turning so you can bolt it in the back and be deep enough to not catch the rail. If you want to use different sized hardware, I can change it fairly easily.

Modified the design (new file, old one still there, same link as before) that has a lock to the rail section in the case luke shared. This should keep it from sliding around left/right when installing and give a better overall mechanical lock.

Smashing work!! Lets talk more about this at the next office hours. Oh and bring an invoice for your time.
