Makerspaces and Communities based in part on the DMS

I have noticed that a few places use tech and rules extremely similar to the DMS in the past.

Here is an example of Pumping Station One discussing using Maker Manager at their space: https://wiki.pumpingstationone.org/Meeting_Notes_2017-04-04

I can’t seem to find any links at the moment but I seem to remember at least one community that was in the process of setting itself up straight up copied our rules and bylaws, links and all.

I think it is a really good thing for Makerspaces to learn from each other. How can we as a community help encourage that?

A number of makerspaces have contacted us and asked if they could use us as an example. For all of our warts, we are a shining example of what a Makerspace can be!

It happens a ton, sometimes they forget to fix hyperlinks and they link back to us too

Excellent I made the minutes!!! We had a good talk about member automation that night.

Glory hog! Great to see that we are helping other Makerspaces and getting recognition also - congrats

Do you think we could package up our bylaws, policies, procedures, etc? It might be fun to provide a starting a makerspace FAQ with the necessary docs. Articles of incorporation, finding a 501c3 attorney, finding local vendors, contacts to other spaces, etc.

FAQ for each section of the By-laws, with links to Talk discussions … let them decide what to change before adopting.

As we grew, we are finding that parts of the bylaws and rules did not scale up well. It may be good to point out the problem areas.

I think that would be a great idea.

Especially if we include info like what type of insurance we have, how we negotiated our lease, and other less obvious bureaucratic hurdles required to start a makerspace.

And info on setting up an accounting system that can grow with a space
