Makerspace member contact directory

Can I remove myself or block people from seeing my contact information in the Makerspace directory? I could not find it in the wiki or new member 411.

We have a member directory?

As far as I know, the only people with access to the personal stuff (home address, phone) are Maker Manager admins.

@Team_Infrastructure, can you confirm?

I think it’s also in Active Directory which I think is tied to the billing system.

@collinrh @jrkriehn, @lukeiamyourfather is right; our AD servers is the source of truth for a lot of our systems and that includes the billing system. Its where we store usernames, group details (including which tools one is has taken a class on), committee membership, and things like that.

Now @collinrh if one is concerned with privacy then one can easily use a google voice number and a PO box number; however this is not advised as for billing and legal reasons we’re required to have contact details for our members.

This is not correct. AD is our source of truth for training, computer logins, and G Suite… but not billing, MakerManager, etc

Right now the data is there because it’s always been; when I first joined was told it was required for… something. However I’ve been trying to determine if that something is actually just because it was easier.

So we’re looking at if we can separate out some of the fields. Emails and phones are basically no-go on the possibilities due to chair and teacher requirements for classes, enforcement, etc but things like addresses may be removable.

EDIT: Since the space is closed it’s a good time to see what happens if it’s just blanked… so right now there’s no address info within AD.

That; or we could just update the ACLs and effectively restrict view on PII to only the board, accounting, legal, and pre authorized service accounts (or more efficiently, a single group that these AD objects could have membership of)

except that’s not how AD works. It’s true there is the confidentiality bits for specific fields, but it’s difficult to maintain and breaks a lot of other stuff and it’s not very granular for whom can view it (basically have to be a DA)
