Makerspace 2.0 Let's do this! (Not serious but a good idea)

Vista Ridge Mall is going under - yup, it’s official the internet has won the world.

We could churn it out Valley View Style…go gorilla
We buy Vista Ridge Mall for an obnoxiously low price {were nonprofit take pity on us we have $50 and some cookies to sweeten the deal}…create a mega-space makerspace…charge people studio space…gallery area…work area…smart people coffee areas…snack rooms…sleeping rooms…change the culture of making and gathering people permanently.
I’m willing to run a charter art school so we can get some state money flowing in.
Who’s with me?

Easy cheesy people

Before the recent move, I made a bid for space in Valley View Mall. Good price at $3/sqft and awesome opportunities for networking but not quite enough square footage and no guarantee of lease duration were dealbreakers. Horrible I-635 traffic construction didn’t help make the case either.

Repurposing a mall into a creative arts center is a really cool idea. This is what Valley View has become… mostly artists and workshops. Only issue is that Vista Ridge is getting a little distance-y for the high concentration of members in Dallas proper. Might also be issues with 24x7 access & getting the required work/equipment permits.

Interesting, I have communicated with some powers that be about that very interest.

It’s simply a fantastic idea if I do say so myself. Let me get in with the mayor of Lewisville and talk up his face.
With that amount of space MANY things are possible - Lewisville needs to look outside the box for answers- so many communities will face this very problem within the next 3-5 years. Someone could even run a little cheapo hostel for makers without resources. Don’t get me started…things will get a bit wild quick. Dance space! Daycare mini-maker camp for kiddos Rave space (Do they still do raves…I’m so old). Commercial food kitchen for rent.

This would be a dream job for me - teaching art in a facility like makerspace hubba hubba!

I’ll bring the glow sticks.

What a little while, and we likely will have more bankrupt malls from which to choose. Up my way, Collin Creek Mall is struggling.

I have always thought that a “full service” after school program would be a winner. You would have dance, music, athletics, tutoring, art, . . . . . all in one place, rolling over into dinner service +++. Perfect for the parent that has no time for their kids.

If we could get an anchor, that may be enough space. The whole mall as a stretch goal. Maybe if DMS united with other groups…

Oh yes. I believe they are called orphanages.
Just kidding. I know it’s a need…could easily become a million dollar idea. If I cared enough for the littles I would do it. But the littles…they are sticky people…not my jam.

Silly woman, rich people don’t PAY to send their children to orphanages. We would need a suitably presumptuous name - St. Grotelsex or something like that. OH - - - and we would need a staff photographer so that people could keep up with their kids. Perhaps we could issue each family a digital picture frame(undated daily !!!) to put on their desk in case they forget what the little ones look like (or of they care what they are doing).
