Makercrawl: betterblocks

Betterblocks is a nonprofit community resource “hacker” whims mission is to reconfigure the presentation of city to city dweller. They use a cnc to design and volunteers to sweat and present what’s possible when rethinking city’s. Not quite a Makerspace but they hold the makervibe close to heart.

I like websites for info, follow up, “am I thinking of the right place?”, etc.

The presentation on “tactical urbanism” was awesome. The Better Block Non-Profit utilizes guerrilla tactics to give cities a vision for better community engagement. Their projects have included pop-up cafes, aesthetic gardening, temporary bike lanes, etc.

Many of the ordinances in Dallas were out-of-date, and this kind of activism launched change.

Their files for community furniture are open source, and many also come from Open Desk. I love their mission!
