Maker Advice: Should I get an airbrush?

Hi there DMS crew!

I used to do a lot of projects that involved spray paint, but since I moved into a second story apartment with no patio, I’ve been limited to brush painting for pretty much everything. I was thinking about getting an airbrush setup, but I understand that there’s a lot of upkeep and technical stuff involved in using and maintaining it. All you model makers, painters, and cosplayers out there - is it worth it?

Airbrush is great, take care of it and it’ll be fine. Just make sure it’s clean and 100% dry when you put it away. We have airbrushes at the space you can use but ya know how it is they aren’t the best kept things. The compressors work good so after you try it out you can just buy the airbrush part and use the compressors from the space whenever you wanna use it.

the compressors are very quiet. Paint disperses quickly, so there is very little overspray. a simple backstop and filter fan work great. the amount of control is surprising. Lots of YT videos on airbrushing - most are for miniatures.

@Haley_Moore, since you’re asking, we know you want the answer to be yes, so

I was actually expecting to hear some downsides, people saying “they’re a pain to clean” or “the compressors leak a lot” or something. But it sounds like people who have them seem to be happy with them.

Worst case, use an ultrasonic cleaner

There’s a bunch of airbrushes in the creative arts area if you want a trial run.I could teach you how to get going if you need.
