Do we have any new blades available for the power magic bandsaw in the metal shop. Current blade isn’t even marking the tube in trying to cut whereas the first cut a few months ago went like butter!
If we don’t have any here, do we have a source for them? More than happy to purchase one for the space.
yeah, the blade is totally shot. People keep trying to push steel thru as hard as they can rather than letting the blade do its job at its own pace. I don’t know the size of the blade or a good source. Hoping someone who has changed it before can chime in.
The blade is toast… you can virtually run your finger across the blade in the cut direction… if I have a chance tomorrow, I’ll take it apart and measure. Still looking for a suggestion on where to actually get a blade as I doubt this is a Home Depot item (but I could be wrong!)
I believe this is the same blade that I couldn’t get to cut decently two weeks ago. I used it the night before Ian did. I think it took me 20 minutes to cut 0.750" of aluminum. Kinda burnished it … and boy was it hot!!
Hmm. I cut 3 stacks of 1/8" aluminum sheet the other day. It wasn’t fast but it wasn’t exactly the slow. It took about 5-7 minutes to cut 2ft. Running about 1080 for the speed.
Let me start with the caveat that I know absolutely nothing about where to buy a bandsaw blade. But … I see that there is an interesting blade fab and sharpening company called Dallas Saw & Supply just a couple miles from DMS.
I don’t know if they are affordable but it looks like we could get what we need there.
I cut some 1" rod segments to 5". It took forever plus a day and that 5" segment got too hot to hold. the lube stick was used extensively. I’d say it’s pretty shot.
Could we buy one (Jorgensen) carpenter’s clamp of our own - paint it blue and hang it by the machine? Having it right there might encourage people to use it to safely hold something going through the bandsaw (esp. round stock).
If you have to chase one down from woodshop, people are less inclined to do the safe thing. After all, they’re just making one cut, right?
