I am looking to teach a class on making clay roses. I have 8 sets of components and the cost for class is budgeted at 9 dollars a student. The only problem is I need 60 for two clay pasta machines and 85 portable conventional oven. Is there any budget for tools? Or is there anyone with a quick job to earn these tools
“Clay”=polymer clay, correct?
Ca has/had toaster oven fairly recently. Look over on top of the white cubby shelves I think.
Dunno about pasta thing. There was a polymer clay thing a bit back but not sure what they brought or we had. @clk75201 would know I think what was available in room. Cindy?
Devin is CA chair and who you need to get stuff purchased through. Paging @missydee1206
Shoot me an email at the address on the card you picked up in CA with links to the items you’re wanting for your classes.
Those items are in a price range to be justifiable without asking for help with the board, and three honorariums classes would cover the costs completely, so I see no reason that the committee would reject the idea. I’m happy to add them to the agenda for the committee meeting for this month, date and time TBD.
yes it is polymer clay… thank you for the information.
well i guess the better question is there any interest in providing instructions in this subject.
I am here asking for others opinion… Are you interested in making polymer clay roses.
I’m in. I swear I saw a pasta roller in the cubbies so may not have to purchase that.
Yeah we have two pasta rollers and a toaster oven. We shouldn’t need to purchase more for this class.
He was saying it’s too big for the toaster and the galley is ovenless. I’ll check fired and see if the kilns back there are digital controllers. If so they can run a candle aka 180 and up no problem. We’d just need to coordinate with Beth

Powder coating oven in metal shop?
What’s the temp on that? Not a bad idea
Since we have pasta rollers and at least a toaster oven, and unknown interest as of yet (I think it’d be cool to get polymer stuff going though), maybe the project could be scaled to use existing equipment until interest gets traction. I think it is there judging from previous discussions and the versatility of the medium.
Also scaling the project differently would have added benefit of adjusting project cost to the student. It’s not a lot as it is, but sometimes that can be a factor on who tries things out and registers
Another ever-present issue in ca is where would the larger oven be stored? Need to plan for that if it becomes a happening thing
I have a pasta roller I can loan, I have a box of poly clay, but it is old
and I have no idea if it isusable, I would love to let someone check it out
and if it is, I am willing to donate it
I would e interested in [oly clay classes
To my knowledge poly doesn’t expire although the really old stuff sometimes needs a little softener to make it workable. We have a reasonable amount of white in there if we need to bootstrap
Most of the packages are unopened but they have been in my non climate controlled
storage building
I will try to grab a couple of them and bring them in soon
My memory might be off on this one, but I recall that the temperatures would work on that oven, but that @lukeiamyourfather was working towards replacing a part that would improve performance.
Tagged him to see if he’ll join the discussion.
Thank you for the advice. I can condition any dry polymer clay. I will contact metal shop for powder coat oven.
