Looking for summer camp for a 12 yr old

Hello All,

My sister is 12 years old, interested in video gaming and reading, bored with public school etc. She lives in a small town near Amarillo, and I’m in Dallas. I would like to take her to some type of short summer camp consisting of gaming, coding or STEM etc. weekend camp that fits in her summer schedule. Does anyone have suggestions? A $1000 week long camp isn’t a great option, but I’m not opposed to paying a small fee.

Camp Invention - I’m the assistant director of the one at Lewisville HS

Lots of programs all over the place take a look-see.

My 6yr old son went last year and adored it.
I will also be working this camp this year.
It’s only 1 week long.

If she’s up this way during the summer, UTD has several Summer Camp & Classes to choose from.

UT Arlington has engineering and computer science summer camps you might want to check out.

IDTech is pricey. It is held in Austin. The kids stay in university campus dorms. My son had a really good time even though he was already advanced technically. Met new friends. Etc. Worth it imho for a geek to have a decent camp experience. He teamed up with a blind kid to teach him to code. Said it was heartwarming to make a friend like that through coding. No doubt they both will remember that for years to come. It is interesting to think that the purpose for him to go was to unexpectedly make a difference in someone elses life.

They say there is a reason for everything… Bottom line is yes pay the money. Camp is fun time away from parents.
