Looking for: Horse Hair (have enough - thanks!)

Hey fellow DMS’ers, we are looking for a small amount (ziplock baggie or two) of longish mane or tail hair for a project. We have a member checking in at a nearby stable but wanted to see if we had any horse owners or horse adjacent folks in our midst. The hair doesn’t have to be clipped (though that’s fine too), a brush cleanout would work fine.

Needed by: 12/15, Saturday, 3pm

Thanks for the consideration!

@HankCowdog ?

I know what you’re doing with it … :slight_smile: I have some horse hair pottery and it’s beautiful!

It really is. More of that raku ‘I only have a vague idea of how this is about to turn out!’ thing, I love it and hate it in nearly equal measure.

I saw some made using feathers too. It was pretty amazing.

A lot less horse hair than yours … just a few accents.

Lovely, I really like the red flash! (I wish the other was my work, heh, it was my three second google search result.)

It kinda looks like a woman with her hands on her hips, doesn’t it?

You forgot to put the giant penny next to it.

I’m 100% sure that if you broke this open, you would find treasure.

This may not help for the 15th - but if you need an alternate source of horsehair, check into some instrument luthiers in the area - they commonly do bow re-hairs on string instruments and usually just throw away the old stuff.

I have some, not sure which box it’s in but I’ll try for tmoro if that works? In the future Cherokee Crow in Denison has lots of horse hair and feather items.

I’d super appreciate it! We don’t need very much as you can see from the above pots. :slight_smile:

I have multiple horses and access to their horse hair, but I can’t make it down to DMS in the time frame you need. Can you come to east Allen/Lucas, TX and pick some up?

PM me to coordinate.

Thank you! I will do so.

I love love love Raku and horse hair. I’m trying to spend time in the metal shop to get th skills to build my own Raku kiln. Next up I’ve got to learn to weld!

I have acquired a whole tail-full, courtesy of “Cowboy” Pat O’Br. Where should I leave it for you? PSB? Ceramics area?

Brilliant! You rock, Marshall, thank you.

If you can cram it into my PSB, that would be excellent. If it is too large, if you could slap a label on it “For Raku” and put it anywhere in the smaller grey cabinet next to the kilns, that would also be fine.

@Team_Moderators

We are now happily awash in the hair of many horses, if you could please close the thread, thanks!

We’ll be posting our raku results this weekend, thanks to everyone for their help.
