I’ve got another project I’m doing. It will be an entryway to soccer fields that will be 10’ wide and 10’ high and at the top of posts with an arch at the top from post to post. I’ll build 2 -5’ wide x 4’ high steel gates.
My question is with the 2 support posts. I’m thInking of using 4”x4”x1/4” square Steel posts. Is 1/4” walls too much or too little for this application?
I’m thinking maybe 1/8” or 3/16” Wall thicknesss might be enough and 1/4” is overspecing it?
Note: I will weld 1/2” square plates to the post bases and bolt then to a concrete footing with 4 bolts. The top of the post will be spanned by an arch which will stabilize the forces from hanging 2 gates on it.
