I’m disappointed I even have to say this, stop being asshats about the logo vote. I’ll be at the space tonight to take down all the existing posters and will put up one of my own that covers the board election and the logo vote. Anyone continuing to be an asshat about this is invited to not come back to the space until the next membership meeting.
In the January Membership Meeting, the membership voted that a change to the official logo must be done via membership vote. That vote is scheduled to happen at the Annual Membership Meeting next month. I understand some people are very passionate about changing the logo, but that can not be done until a new logo is voted on.
Now the million dollar question is “what does official logo mean?”. My interpretation is that the following uses of our logo are the “official” uses:
Exterior signs (doors, street sign, etc)
Website
Social media accounts
E-mail sent from @dallasmakerspace.org as part of an announcement
The logo used for these purposes must not be changed until a new logo is voted on. Committees and members are of course free to use whatever logo they want for other purposes.
Not sure why Andrew’s comment was hidden - was A-Hat word to strong? Reminds me of when I lived in China right after Tiannamin Square: Anything deemed Counter Revolutionary talk, posters, or thought not tolerated.
I do agree when Alex took down the posters that said you had to be a member for 48 months, that was an outright false statement.
The troll did satirically raise a good point about the increasing flyer abuse at DMS, I consolidated some of the old/excessive flyers to our bulletin boards and will work on buying a 5’x3’ bulletin board so we have a better location for flyers
I really love our Current logo. I’ve been traveling so much recently to Austin, Portland, SF spaces and people Know about Dallas maker’s space. Our logo has recognition in the maker community I hate the idea of changing it just as we have momentum.
Also in terms of what the space is… our current logo speaks more to growth in what making is. A year, two years from now our ideas about making will evolve we could very well have VR lab or Prosthetics lab and this new logo feels that were defining what it means to be a maker between a wrench and a paintbrush thus making it feel “CRAFTS-EY”
In terms of composition and scalability the current logo wins on both fronts!
I think it would be awesome for our community to have sub logos for sure, that we can put on different rooms use for different events etc… but the new logo is far too limiting.
I hung up 2 4x3 bulletin boards and relocated most of the flyers to those boards, the current idea is that any regular flyer not posted on a bulletin board will be relocated to one. There are no rules saying who can put up what/where/how, I’m just attempting to doocratically create an accepted practice of where flyers should go by giving the flyers a better home
