Local Source for Zircon Sand (Hevi-Sand)

So I have a shooting rest that I would like to fill with “Hevi-Sand.” To the best of my knowledge the sand I need is Zircon sand. I’ve heard it is used in sand casting and is about double the weight by volume of Play Sand. Do any of you have a source local that can help me with this? I would probably need about 15 pounds of sand, but if other need some as well, I would be open to try and do a group buy.

Last shooting bag I made, i filled with kitty litter. Worked great

Interesting idea,
I wonder if there are better alternatives? Any one have access to large mesh lead???

what is “large mesh lead”?

I may have a lot of clean lead left over soon …

Just be aware that zircon sand is typically radioactively ‘Hot.’

Not dangerous, just be aware if you’re carrying a bunch of it around through truck stops and are carrying weapons too :grimacing:

I’ll take it either way.

You can buy lead shot locally.

Also what about corn starch in a tight bag.

Uranium! Eeek!

The uranium concentration of zircon is generally very high, between 300 and 600 ppm (Wagner and Van den haute, 1992) which is well suited for fission track dating and even for archaeological dating.
