Local source for angle Iron

Who is the normal source for DMS angle iron needs ?
Next project looks to need around 100 feet of so

Thanks

Best I say is to call around for better pricing.

I’d also add Garland Steel to that list.

My recommendation would be to setup a cash account with whomever…the pricing will be different…see if DMS has a cash account w/ any of the vendors…Joe off the street prices suck big time.

Do you know what you need for angle? What I mean is equal angle or un-equal. Thickness, & width.

If you can pick it up, much cheaper. If you can get standard lengths, which are longer, price drops significantly. I’m fortunate that Online metals warehouse (ThyssenKrupp Materials) is just 2 miles from me. If they don’t have it there, they’ll ship for Will Call at no cost (have to call in order and exact arrival date not guaranted but I saved about 30% - $50. So worth it for me since no hurry)

I added Garland Steel and Wylie Steel to the Wiki page of sources.

If you buy full 20’ lengths it’s cheaper. Consider bringing a hacksaw to cut long lengths down to managable size after the sale. Wylie Steel charges a premium for less than full sticks. Their policy is:

  • pay for length you want, plus 1/2 of what’s left. So, it steel you wanted was $1/ft and came in 20’ lengths, but you only wanted 7 feet, you’d pay:
  • $7 for the7 feet you wanted, plus
  • $6.50 for the 13 feet you _didn’t buy

so 7 feet would cost $13.50.

Charging more for small amounts is typical: this is the only company who’s rates I know.

Given that you want 100 ft, plan on 5 20’ sticks and figure out how to get it home: cut down to size on site or use a trailer.

Fulton supply in Denton does not charge for the first cut per each piece of steel. In other words you could buy 5 sticks from them & not be charged for a cutting fee.

What the heck are you building, Carey?

Storage system for plywood and wood off cut, that swings out from the wall
will be something like 10’x4.5’x2

For those of you who don’t mind scrapping - there is ALMETCO in Lewisville east off I-35 - you can buy scrap or trade scrap for scrap there - I’ve done it on occasion. And you NEVER know what they’ll literally have laying around. I’ve gotten several pounds of scrap lead there by trading my cans and whatever metal I had to get rid of out of my garage. So you can literally go cashless or even walk out with something useful an a few bucks.

At Garland Steel, you can buy rusted metal of all types for .45 cents a pound. They also have any kind of new cold rolled or hot rolled steel you could use. I built a 30 ton press using c-channel from cutoffs there. It’s a steel wonderland.
