Hello fellow Makers,
I have been a member of the Makerspace for a year and have enjoyed the people, access, and tools available to me due to the membership. I was announced Principal of Central Elementary(PreK - 5th Grade) in CFBISD at the start of this year, which is right behind R.L. Turner High School, and have had less time to spend making at the space because my new job. I’ve learned that running a building is a big project with lots of making opportunities of its own!!!
This year we have our students their own Makerspace to explore the world of making. In true Maker fashion we know it is not about the tools, but rather a state of mind. That being said…tools are cool…we can all attest to that! One creation tool I would like my students to have more access to is Legos! We have exhausted our limited financial resources for the Makerspace for the current year and are thus reaching out to the community.
During the month of February we will be collecting new and used Lego donations. These Legos will be used in daily in our Makerspace, for monthly family build nights, and for after school clubs. Our goal is to collect 100 bricks per students or 63,200 Lego pieces total. I’m sure with the help of the Dallas Makerspace we can exceed this!
If you are someone you know would like to donate any Legos, they will be used by hundreds of deserving students on a daily basis. I am willing to come collect them from the Makerspace or surrounding area. Thank you in advance for your consideration.
Feel free to let me know if you have any questions.
We will also have a Family Build Night on March 3rd from 5:30-7:30 to celebrate our conclusion of the drive and to have fun building together. If you have created something from Lego that you would like to showcase at the event, we would love to have the Maker community out to share the possibilities of Legos.
