Leather SIG Met and is Rollin'!

Okay, there is clearly interest, 17 below plus myself. I picked an initial time for lets call it a SIG formation meeting.

I submitted for next Thursday @ 7PM in CA. Bring your ideas and thoughts. We can schedule additional times but this gets it off the mark.

@uglyknees @engpin @morganntho @Brian @MellissaRhodes @Jules @User3977 @TBJK @Cairenn_Day @coloneldan @rshill @Jerry @shazooer @kblythe @mreynolds @JBluJkt @Timothy_Morgan

Get the word out and bring ideas, desires, skills, fantasies, examples, whatever!

Okay, I have tried to avoid this, but given the other posts of the day I think we could all use a laugh.

When you first proposed a leather SIG, this was the kind of thing that came to mind.

tap the breaks - have you talked with marshal to see if he can make it? @Photomancer Ill text him really quick

There can be another meeting(s) - this is just to get things going. No matter what date there will be conflicts. I’m trying to overcome inertia and get past planning things to death. CA = Call to Action!

Damn the torpedoes, hit the gas, brakes are just extra weight!

Note: I suspect this is @wandrson winter outfit - summer is sans blue jeans.

He can make it - not that he’s the most important person at all - but I feel since he will be leading many of the classes its good he can make it.

Great that he can - I encourage everyone to come as he will be adding at lot to the leather program. The stronger our showing the stronger he can & will support our activities. The amount of instant interest I felt justified getting it going - ASAP.

While we might not make saddles … I’m sure an intermediate level class for those with motorcycles would be leather saddlebags.

I put an introductory leather class on the calendar for 2/15/2016 at 7:00PM.

Other classes I’m interested in teaching are: 1) Making a gun holster 2) making a belt 3)making a wallet, 4)making a knife sheath 4)sewing leather by hand and with a machine 5) leather finishing.

CA already has five or six of the items necessary to teach the classes above (belts, wallets, knife sheaths) and the cost for these usually runs $6-$10.

Once I know the total cost of materials to CA for my class, I’m going to post one about how to make a leather cover for field notes. Conveniently, it will fit passports and, with a slight height adjustment, most smartphones. It’ll have pockets too, so they could be altered to form something like a wallet as well. I hope to have everything figured out this week, so I can post the class for the 3rd week of February or so.

Fantastic for both of you!

Morgan, if you know what materials are needed provide those to me and we’ll work with our Tandy folks to get pricing.

We now have two sewing machines capable of leather stitching so we have that capability now.

If you can’t be there Thursday let me know what to bring up. I will be taking notes: Should I start Leather SIG under CA?

I will be teaching the introductory leather class tonight (2/15/2016) at 7:00PM in CA. There is no charge for the class. In the class I will cover the different types of leather, go over all of the leather tools in CA, the steps in a traditional leather project. accouterments you can add to leather, and a hands on exercise where you will tool some scrap leather.

We only have about eight marble slabs and mallets etc so the class size is a little limited by tool availability, but there is no signup so come to the class if you are interested.(We’ve shared tools in the past, but we are also working on getting more tools)
