Lathe certificate

I sent this to the committee last week and no response so hoping I get one here. Took the lathe basic class on Sept 23, but when I tried to sign up for the green bowl class, it stated that I had not taken the basic class. Who do I need to talk to get this fixed? The same instructor also certified me on the full shop equipment, but I cannot remember his name.

You can review the event calendar to figure out the name of instructor: Events |Dallas Makerspace Calendar. This will help in clearing up permission question for you.

Thanks, it worked but didn’t work. Found the instructors name but I guess he is no longer in makerspace as I cannot bring up his name in the emails. Thanks for your help. I’m on the fence on staying with makerspace as so far, my experience, besides your help just now, has been piss poor.

I agree it is tough to figure things out here. We do a lousy job of setting expectations up front, which is generally the only reason people get upset in life…

What I am pretty sure of, though, is if you bear with it for a few months, you will eventually understand what DMS actually is, your expectations will get readjusted to the reality, and things will make a little more sense and not be frustrating. In the short term, there will always be more bowl classes and etc., so no opportunity is truly missed forever.

What was the date of your class, please?

I have been with makerspace for several months and it has not gotten better. The date of my class was sept 23. Thanks again for your help.

just show up for the green bowl class, Ill add one more spot.

Class indicates instructor was Jeff Courtman. @jlcourtman: can you confirm?

Thanks but it would have to be two spots as my son and I do all of these together. I appreciate the good gesture.

It looks like you ARE tagged as having taken Lathe Basics, but not Woodshop Basics. Not sure what the pre-reqs were on the greenwood bowl class, but it seems moot at this point, with @ryans 's and your and responses. I think this will get straightened out for you in the near term, though…

thats cool, come on down. It will be a full house but we’ll make it work.

Farmerbrad - I remember you and your son well. I completed the report of attendees, which is necessary to receive the honorarium - and I always want the honorarium :). I also sent a note to add you to the approved list of Woodshop users… As to the Lathe class, reporting is done on-line…And, yes, the system is sometimes fupped up, which is why you did the right thing to post…FYI, include @Team_Woodshop in your posts for a question like this; it alerts all the instructors (I think) and the committee chair…Sorry for the problems - hope you’ll stick around.

Thanks for the response. So how do I ensure my workshop approval is complete? I tried downloading the list of approved users on this website but for weeks have gotten errors.

I’ve just added you to WSB group. What’s your son’s first name. please?

Also, there is a small kiosk in common room on shelves that you can use your RFID key fob or card with to check on your class status/permissions. I suggest everyone check a few days after that have takes a required training class to make sure their status has been correctly recorded/updated.

Son’s name is Daegan. And the last few times the kiosk was down. We live way out in Commerce so it’s not an easy thing to just drop by, hence the attempt at using the web for info. Thanks again

Done.

Also:

When you find something not working as expected/intended, please report here on Talk forums by creating a thread under “Issues and Requests” category…things can’t get fixed if they are not reported, and that category was specifically set up for just this type of thing and . Thanks…
