The lathe accessory carts were reorganized today. The goals of this effort were to :
1. Make it easier to find accessories
2. Make it easy to see if an accessory is missing
3. Avoid damage to accessories from rolling around in the draws.
We used kaizen foam to put each accessory in a specific place (see pictures). We created one cart of Powermatic accessories, one for OneWay accessories and two carts for the four Jet lathes. The expectation is that turners return accessories to the slot where it came from. Tools will be easier to find since they will (theoretically) always be in the same location. No more looking in four draws of three carts to find something. And accessories won’t roll around in the drawer and it will be easy to see of something is missing. We left room for addition accessories in the future.
Note the top two draws of the drill press cart were re purposed for a second Jet accessory cart. The drill bits and forstner bits were move to the bottom two draws of Jet accessory cart #2. The reorganization of the pen turning drawer was out of scope for this project.
