Hey, I posted a few new classes for laser training. All the classes cover the Epilog Zing and Thunder.
Laser: Epilog and Thunder Training
Learn to use the new lasers! Training is now available on both the Epilog and Thunder. These lasers support simultaneous raster and vector cutting.
Note: The Laser Committee is considering a testing option, like that of the CNC Mill and CNC Router. This may later be a requirement for all laser users.
Thanks mucho John for teaching this! The Thunder and the Zing will be great additions to the capabilities.
Sometime when you use the Zing, would you mind checking out the “Color Mapping” option? I believe that I had all the options checked correctly (per the user manual) but it ignored all my individual colors and just defaulted to the general settings. Most telling was when it actually cut layers for which I had set power to zero and raster and vector both to “No”. Most likely it was user error (mine) - perhaps it didn’t recognize my colors as I intended - but I’d appreciate your take on it.
I’d bet your problem is with the colors you are using not matching what the Zing wants. If you are using AI, then try opening it in Inkscape and check that the colors are all RBG values.
Cutting layers when colors are set to off may be a feature not a bug. Look on page 78 on the manual (on line). It says that any line that is not color mapped will be processed using the settings in the Dashboard. I think that means if you have a color that’s slightly off, it goes back and uses the dashboard setting. I need to play with it some more.
I’m back from a year’s absence, and was amazed by the laser printers. I missed the classes so i wanted to join the masses in hoping for another class.
That’s exactly what my problem is. I guess I don’t know how to stroke properly in Illustrator. Despite my best efforts to assign a specific color to the stroke (#FF0000 for instance) the stroke always ends up being the CMYK equivalent that Illustrator stores in the palette. I’ll be looking for someone who can spend five minutes showing me how to do this correctly.
I’m guessing your document is in CMYK colorspace. You can convert the document colorspace to RGB, which I’m guessing will fix your issue, at least on new lines.
