Laser Cutting EPDM Sheet - Approved?

I want to cut some EPDM rubber (gasket) material. According to the manufacturer, this “product can be fabricated using laser” cutting. The datasheet is attached.

I am seeking hard confirmation that cutting this is acceptable. Just because a material can be cut with a laser does not necessarily mean that it should be cut - I’m thinking harmful fumes/harm to the laser itself.

Can someone on the laser committee please comment.

Thanks,

Phil

@Team_Laser

There are a few types of rubber/foam materials we don’t allow (see list on the wiki), but since the manufacturer is willing to laser cut this material I don’t see why we shouldn’t allow it either.

I’d say you’re good to go. Do keep the lid closed for a bit after cutting, iirc EPDM can smell pretty bad.

Thank you!

(I’ll keep the lid closed and give it time to air out after cutting.)
