Large bar stock under the HAAS

Greetings all,
while cleaning up for Open House, we rediscovered 2 large 2"x4" aluminum flat stock under the HAAS. One is 6’ the other is 4’. First does anyone know if this was for a dedicated use?

If it is not for a dedicated project, I move we either sell it or cut it up into sections that members can purchase for their personal projects. The only caveat is you can’t store it in the machine shop - use your personal bin or storage. Online metals prices this at about $32/foot. I propose we mark it at $25/foot to account for inflation.
Let me know before we start chopping. the money will be put toward our proposed CNC sherline mill.

@merissa - would you mind asking Brandon if it was somehow originally intended for the trebuchet?

It was for HAAS training, we used it for both soft jaws for dominoes and for the dominoes themselves…

Hmmm… Foot long dominos… I wonder…

This is leftover Bryan material. it belongs to the machine shop.

I believe he used it for soft jaws

Sounds like fun … we could make things in Gulliver and Lilliputian scales!

Need to think if this could be used for any of the project classes we talked about last night. Could still get the $25/ft (a bargain) as class material fee. But if can be sold outright that’s all good. 10’ x $25 is about 10% of the CNC Mill with our discount.

fortunately, we’ve got several softjaw blanks in the cabinet and we’ve not been tearing up the softjaws we use on the domino project, so we’re pretty good for a long time (famous last words). so …
who wants some?

I’ll buy a foot of it. Just let me know when and where to pay and pick it up.

We’ll get it cut up soon and post the details.

I’m in for a foot of it as well.

I’ll start a list. People can just message me their interest. I’ll be back next week and cut some up.

Like Prime Rib, do end cuts cost more?

Not sure why, but for some reason I thought it was for moving the HAAS.

we don’t charge extra for the burr left on the ends.
