Have you considered using the laser to cut acrylic?
CAD up and cut ~1/8" to verify pattern/cut is usable.
Need 1/2"? Do in layers.
Think lasers are capable of cutting 1/4" max.
Will be much faster and probably more ridged.

If they can set up a time for me (or anyone who knows how) to meet them up there we can tune up the laser and probably get 3/8", maybe 1/2" out of it. But you’re right 1/4" is the thickest I would usually go for decent cut quality.
