Just an idea (and a bonus headache and bonus unasked for work) for the people with the bootstraps. Should we, have we, would it be possible to create a covid financial donation page for DMS to help offset some of the lost memberships with the shutdown/expansion costs.
Yes, so many things suck right now. So may people are economically punched in the soul with this virus. So many people are unable to contribute. But some would. I believe it’s worthy of consideration or at least a look over.
I realize we have a contribution area of the website - but what I’m thinking is some sort of banner popup with a *hey help if you can because this sucks message - here’s the link on where to donate.
Primary POC on such a thing happening, I would think, would be @Lampy as our usual suspect for gettin’ it done. I know he’s sitting around the house, twiddling his thumbs right now…
I had thought about something along the lines of us selling shirts/buttons/wrist bands to raise money, either for ourselves or for a local hospital/foodbank/animal shelter etc. Whatever would most benefit the community during this shut down
I think DMS is handling this ok financially. While we are losing members we are still in good shape to cover our expenses and complete expansion. (won’t be buying a water-jet anytime soon)
However we have a lot of members that may not be doing as well as others. At a minimum we could use donations to fill the Maker Fellowship Fund (paypal link) back up. Once we reopen we can grant memberships for people in need.
