Feel free to enjoy our progress photos as this little garden comes to life.
One of the biggest challenges in North Texas gardening is overcoming the super dense clay soil that exists in most places. As we progress I’ll highlight our attempts at this!
Step 1, remove the existing grass! It is important to do this and not till it in. If you till it in, you will never escape all the grass and weeds that come from it.
For this task the easiest and simplest way is a sod cutter. Off to the Home Depot!

Here is after running the sod cutter!

Next is removing the sod that is no longer attached, here is the start of that process. We will make a pile of this and let it dry out. It will make removing the grass easier. This way we don’t throw away perfectly good north texas topsoil
Here is the start of this

You could fit a beehive back there, they are very docile, Kobin Caddick has a yard not much larger than yours and he has two.
As much as I’d love bees, I’m not sure I want to argue with the neighbors on that one, nor future chickens and if @yashsedai eventually goes around banging metal, that may disturb them too : ( If there is a way though to accomplish without causing them turmoil and live in harmony, I’d be cool with that.
