I believe the sewing machines purchased in February need training before being used. Can’t find any classes specifically on how to use the machines in the past or future.
How does a member get trained on these machines?

I know that Beth has held a class and I could hold one. Or catch me and I will show you.
I’d like to take the class too. Thanks,
Graham
What is it that you want to do with the sewing machines? And, have you ever used a sewing machine before?
And, I’m surprised that you couldn’t find one in the past. Maybe we called it something “off”? My last class for this was something like Sewing Basics, and I’m pretty sure that another person also taught something similar. When I tried to teach Cutting Patterns, I wound up with someone from the earlier Basics class who hadn’t been able to make the time for the other class that was just before mine. Since I didn’t get any students for the patterns, we went over the machine for her.
I’d also be interested in a basics class.
Beth,
I don’t have any specific projects in mind, just want to know how to use the machine if something comes up.
I found sewing classes you offered, but they appeared to be focused on other stuff. I was looking for something like we have on the other big tools–a class on the controls, how not to hurt yourself, and most importantly how not to break the machine.
By the way, I thought the sewing basics class was about hand sewing!
I’d like a class on how to use the machines too. I’ve done lots of plain sewing with machines and by hand, but I’ve never used a serger or an embroidery machine.
Thanks,
Graham
I just took a class on using the babylock embroidery machine from @John_Marlow She said she will be offerring another later this month.
Look for intro to sewing, Jules has taught a number of them as well as Beth.
Thanks David! Beth gave me a class on the machine this afternoon, and I have been reading the manual since I got home.
BTW, I saw the Intro to Sewing classes and thought they were covering hand sewing!
Are there plans for an Intro to Sewing class in the near future? Just joined the space and myself and a friend of mine are very interested in getting trained on the sewing machines
@Cairenn_Day has a make a tote bag class coming up shortly that I believe will function as an intro to Sewing class.
Thanks! I saw that one but unfortunately will be out of town that day… Do you know of any similar ones on other days? Ones that aren’t necessarily labeled as ‘Intro to Sewing’?
Sorry, no I don’t know of any others.
@Jules and Beth (what’s her talk name?) have facilitated intro sewing classes in the past. Possibly they could share if they have plans.
@creaturecarousel do you both have experience with sewing and are just wanting to get checked out to use the machines?
@dryad2b is the Beth you’re looking for (I think).
We both have experience with hand sewing but not with a machine.
Gotcha! Thank you for your interest and desire to learn here with everyone. Im out of pocket for a bit but if a class doesn’t pop up please let me know and I can assist when I return.
