Issue homing a laser?

I’m working to repair a small diode laser for work (Darkly Labs Emblaser) thats a desktop size

The bearings and carriages on the gantry were all upgraded to sturdier designs but I’m still having issues when I try to home it. The gantry moves happily and freely front to back but starts skipping and making a grinding sound when it tries to go left to right despite brand new bearings and freshly cleaned/lubed rails. Any suggestions from folks who have built far better than this on how to fix/troubleshoot it?

Is it going too far without realizing it’s boundaries? Does it have end stops?

It’s doing it in the center position and not in a corner. I don’t see any limit switches on it but I’m assuming there has to be some kind of default in the system since it stops itself on the foward/back.

I’m not sure if a video would be helpful or if I should just bring it up? I am willing to pay a small fee and/or snacks
