ISO ~12mm Half-Round Flat-Back Beads

Hello. Anyone Creative have something like this? https://www.amazon.com/Linsoir-Cabochons-Natural-Flatback-Gemstone/dp/B01DVG7V4W

I just need 3 or 4 and would prefer not to have to by a whole passel of them.

Maybe @Team_Jewelry, as well?

Sooo…a few questions…

The link title has both “cabochon” and “bead” in it. This is a weird wording because you wouldn’t usually call a cabochon a bead. Different form/function. Might be a translation or key word thing they did.

Plus the “beads” in the link aren’t drilled (actually are truly just 12mm calibrated cabochons).

So what are you needing in form/function? Makes a difference where to send you:

Are you needing something flattish with a hole for you to attach it? (Bead)

Or are you needing a flat-backed stone (no hole) of a particular size/material? (Cabochon)

Also, are you looking for a particular material? Link was tiger eye, but many other options out there.

And size, link was 12mm. If looking for flattish 12mm tiger eye bead, it’ll take searching, plus usually have to buy strand (I could talk to you about the extras). If want 12mm tiger eye (or other) cab, easy peasy.

If you need a cabochon, regardless of material, and just want a few, I’d check locally over at The Rock Barrel in garland near 635/75 over behind TI area (woodcrafters in same strip area). They have beads too but the shape you’re looking for could be trickier in a drilled bead. Cabs, no problem at all. Lots of selection. I go there for cabs that I need to handle (like cherry-picking tiger eyes with lots of chatoyancy versus just ordering some hematite that’s all the same online)

Online, for beads/cabs, try Fire Mountain.

Pro-tip–if ordering tiger eye cabs online, I’d get a few extra because they’ll just grab/pack and not pick and choose the pretty ones. You can have dark/dull areas on tiger eye, or barely any chatoyancy (“waves” or movement). Get extra. I buy TE in person when practical. Most other stuff is fine online.

I’d start at the Rock Barrel.

There’s other sources if you need, but this is a start.

That’s Amazon Sellers for you…throw as many words in their titles search tags as possible so they get more hits. My post title sums it up better.

I am hoping someone at the 'Space in CA or Jewelry just has some sitting around they are willing to part with; if I am going to have to buy them from a store or online, I already have the Amazon link for that :–)

Ok, for for your title of “half-round flat backed beads”…

Beads for most people usually infers it has a hole. The ones in link don’t. Are just cabs, no hole. If the hole matters to you for attachment, might check that closer.

If you’re truly looking for a bead that is 12mm round, flat on one side, domed on the other, plus out of a particular material…that’s going to be tricky. Flattish round beads are usually more of a lentil shape (slight convex both sides) or totally flat both sides. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen the flat/domed combo in a drilled bead, plus adding in size/material parameters…good luck

If it helps and you wind up buying that larger batch off the Amazon link…if they’re decent appearance, I would buy the extras from you. It’s a size I use a lot for men’s rings. Lemme know.

Fwiw, if the quality turns out ok, the ones you found on Amazon are a good price.

Good to know…thanks.

There are several good bead store on Harry Hines at Royal. They are retail not wholesale. They will sell you 1 necklace.

The Tiger eye are most likely OK but that seller is misidentifying stoes
their ‘natural turquoise’ look like dyed magnestite, Their ‘natural opal crystal’
is o[alite glass and opal are not cryststal, their red jade is a dyed stone

My guess is they are Chinese and not clear on English terms

~snort~ yeah, just look at the “other colors” on that listing. The “natural aquatic” something…clearly moss agate. And the “orange clear” something is undyed carnelian. Gawd only knows what what those clear “opal” ish things are. Glass. And the “sandstone” that’s goldstone. Yeah. And yeah, the “turquoise” listings… ~head shake~ but at least turquoise fakery is common and most people into it know what to look for if they care. I’d first thought it might be a keyword grab with the silly beads thing in the title, but I think it’s a translation issue.

All that being said, the tiger eye is likely fine other than the usual question mark with buying online and no indication of quality (saw some pretty AAA tiger eye beads as a suggested “also bought”). TE is always a crap-shoot online. I have two smaller sellers for nicer cabs that I trust what they’ll send, and pay extra for it (mom and pop indie sellers I prefer to support anyway), but otherwise stones like TE, moonstone, labradorite, etc, it’s better in person at a gem show. (David shudders and starts talking about money with wings when I say “gemshow”. Sometimes I say it just to mess with him).

TE can be a crap shoot in person, I lost most of mine when
Windy was stolen and the first few shows after that, there was
very little TE and most was crap, the decent stuff was priced very
high. I was still trying to rebuild my stock last summer
