Is this olive wood?

So … mystery wood. It didn’t look like olive wood to me. It certainly smelled like olive wood however. Parts of it were super hard and didn’t turn too easily but parts of it turned like olive wood.

It began life as knife scales.

Doesn’t look like Olive wood.

I agree that it doesn’t look like it, but it has a very unique scent and its hard to mistake for any other woods. I wonder if it was just a weird looking piece but is in fact part of the species.

Yeh, it didn’t look like olive wood to me, either. That’s why I asked. I wonder if maybe it was cut from a burl location or something similar?

Looks more brown than olive.

I’m not an expert and can’t tell from the picture. Check to see if Australian silky oak looks similar. It’s sometimes referred to as lacewood.

I don’t think lacewood has a distinctive odor.

Maybe not, I was considering that it might have been the tannin smell that oak sometimes has.
