I would like to do some steam bending wood. Is there any equipment for this at the space?
Not to my knowledge.
The various apparatuses I’ve seen my father use for wood bending require a source of steam and its attendant energetic heat source immediately prior to the bending process, to say nothing of soaking the material for lengthy periods prior. He used a camp stove last time I checked.
If you look online there’s a number of sources on how to do it fairly cheaply with relatively inexpensive gear. The thing the makerspace doesnt have that kind of nixes steam bending is the amount of space needed for the bending unit, the jigs, and the amount of time it takes. However you can always try a laminate bend and achieve somewhat similar results.
