Is DMS the greatest makerspace on the planet?

You cannot measure greatness by just a few parameters like number of members, tools or square feet. It is these plus many other values. I have occasionally scanned the web and seen interesting sites but then the cost of a class is $75.00 or membership is $150.00 or hours are limited. How do we rate? Here are a few thoughts.

Cost of membership is a limiting factor for many who would like to join. There are spaces with lower membership prices but they all seem to be very limited in what they offer. Our rates seem to be on the low end of makerspaces with many resources.

How many classes are offered and how much do they cost? Scan the event calendar or try to submit a class within the next three weeks. Our offerings are unbelievable. Most classes being free/cheap seems to be a key factor in our success.

The number of tools we have is amazing. Its fun to give an informal walk through tour. People can hardly believe what they are seeing.

We have a great facility in a safe location. After expansion is complete it will be incredible.

Membership size and rate of change. Amazing.

The finances seem to be healthy as we navigate carefully through the expansion.

Membership dues represent the majority of out income. This is a more reliable source of funding than grants or other possible sources.

Hours of access. Its hard to beat 24/7.

The best parts are the tools and the awesome people that can help me learn to make the things i dream about using the cool tools. In this regard I’d say DMS is one of the best.

The worst part are the mean people that seem to complain about and undermine everything… that part sucks and those people need to learn what it means to be “most excellent”, especially to each other.
