We are waiting on two things to get the ball rolling properly - the printer parts so we can print the film and the drying cabinet.

Last night we had a big screen print lova-a-thon
@Leah_C @Hardsuit and Astrud @Double-D @talkers and @Photomancer got together to talk about the details on how classes will be run for learning the exposure unit and general screen printing at the space. I appreciate the time you guys are giving to get this off the ground correctly.

@talkers is going to work to fabricate a light safe drying cabinet (designed by @Double-D) for the screens if you wish to help assist please talk to him.

We will have two different exposure classes that will be divided by your personal interest - t-shirts or more towards fine art (two different types of screens).

Classes will be $35 and you will receive: A 20X24 screen (image area 17X21") proper fancy tape (ya I know duct tape works but lets get the good stuff) 2 sheets of inkjet film to print on and use of emulsion. Classes will be limited in size because of the activity - and we realize we will have a long backlog to get people ready to create personal screens. This gives us about $5 to keep some of the various chemicals and other items in stock and good order for your use with screens - cleaners, opener, squeegees, vodka for the instructors etc.

Currently
Devin said he can commit to weekly Saturday classes
Astrud said she can commit to 1-2X a month
Leah is committed to teach daytime printing classes
David is willing to teach midnight maker classes once he gets more familiar
Gorman is going to print shirts for PR

Out of curiousity, if the screens need to dry in a light safe, how are you’ll planning on doing the exposure and such, since we don’t have a dark room?

good question -

The plan is to take everyone into the unisex bathroom (we will make announcements to make everyone aware) scoop coat the screens as a class - put them into the drying cart, shut the door and turn on the fan.

We will be making a small plug-in light for that room.

Exposure will be done with the exposure unit after the screens are done - the exposure unit we got has a lid to minimize stray light and also provide a fantastic exposure area. This being said the emulsion isn’t anywhere as close to as sensitive as photo so we should be ok even with some stray light.

For the fine art printing, do you need multiple screens if you want to print in multiple colors?
Will extra screens be available for sale?

Another good question -

You will need to have multiple screens for all the different colors. We didn’t talk about that in detail but we will have a few extra screens on hand for purchase but they will be limited to what we can fit in the cabinet and they will be different screen meshes but all still the 20X24 size. The best policy will be to make sure to email the teacher before the class to tell them how many you will need so we can make sure to have them ordered. Ryonet has been really good to us - they have about a three day shipping window so we should be able to pull it off.
You would pay for the extra screens in class to the tribute box to avoid headache.
