FenCon, a local annual non-profit general Science Fiction convention is offering Dallas Makerspace a programming and demo room at this year’s convention. The convention is September 25-27 at the Westin DFW Hotel in Irving.
FenCon is very maker-friendly, including hosting frequent demos, workshops, and panels. The head of Programming, Julie Barrett, would like to expand that this year by giving the Makerspace a room for whatever programming or demos that people want to bring in. Julie would also like to put Makerspace members on several general interest panels outside of the dedicated room.
Is there any interest in doing basically a mini-makerfair at FenCon this year? Julie is willing to comp a reasonable number of participants with FenCon participant memberships, meaning that those who volunteer would be able to attend the rest of the convention when they weren’t working the Maker room.
Also, the Maker room itself would be open to any current Makerspace member without buying a FenCon membership. Of course they would need to either be comped or purchase a membership if they want to attend regular FenCon programming outside the Maker room.
Any interest in this? If so, please contact Julie at [email protected] or feel free to discuss with me: [email protected]
We need to know soon if there is interest so that we can allocate the room to Makerspace and register the participants. We would like to hear back from interested parties no later than next Friday, August 14th.
Thanks!
