I am typing this for one of my friends. He has wanted to hold Automotive Body and Paint related classes since earlier this year. Since the year is almost over, He figured is either now or never. He does body work professionally, and stands to share a wealth of experience and knowledge on all the subjects involved. His Idea is to have a hands on classes.

What the class is: A hands on skills development class for beginners to the experience. The class will cover proper paint spraying techniques. Various surfaces will be explained and experimented on. The class will deal with Automotive primer and paints. Compressed air spray guns will be used. Again, HANDS ON. These skills will transfer to any Spray Gun painting you may encounter in the future. Furniture, houses(interior/exterior), items/trinkets, etc…
What this class is NOT: A Comprehensive painting class. There are several other related topics and skills that are imperative to properly painting a vehicle that will NOT be cover in this class. These include, but are not limited to Mixing paints/primers/clear, prep-work and surface protection, sanding, bond-o, welding, smoothing surfaces, dent repair…Etc, etc. Those classes should be coming in the near future…
What we hope to achieve: The students will not only learn theory, but will apply and develop the theory into proper spraying technique. After the class, the students shall posses hands on experience on proper Spraying technique. They would have learned and practice on a few automotive and irregular surfaces with the real tools. The student will learn how to avoid common mistakes and correct common problems experienced while spraying.
Logistics: We will need minimum 3 parking spots(preferably next to the dumpster) the immediate vehicles parked next to these spots will be fully covered with cover-plastic. This is a formal precaution, primer and paint become non adhering, equivalent to dust in less than 36". The danger of over spray is near non existent. The class will probably take place during the late afternoon on a weekday.
Tools: We will bring several automotive surfaces for the students to practice on, along with some irregular shapes(stools, tables, metalworks) We will also bring a few Spray guns, and other tools. We will provide disposable gloves, Eye protection and Paint masks. If you have your own gear, we strongly recommend for you to bring your own hepa filtered masks and closed eye protection. Please dress appropriately; Old tattered and torn clothing is best.
Costs: There will be a class limit of 10 students. This is a consumable supply heavy class, and thus will cost either $20 or $30 per student. We are hammering out all the details, in order to decrease cost as much as possible but there will be a cost. The class should last between 2-3 hours. Depending on the speed of skills progression of the students in class.
He’s biggest worry is that no one will be interested in such a class, I have assured him otherwise. What time and day would this class be better suited to take place? anyone interested??
