Interest check plastic inlay ring

I made this ring on the Sherline lathe in the plastics shop . It is made using a stainless steel ring blank, abalone inlay strips and UV cured resin . The shaping and finishing is done on the sherline lathe using tooling designed to hold rings . Is this a class folks would be interested in taking? Costs would be about $15 to cover materials. I would probably include a 20 minute sherline orientation for folks who had not taken the sherline lathe class . This would be a demo and knowledge transfer class. It is likely that since there is only one machine , time would not allow the class participants to leave the class with the ring, but you would leave with the skills, the knowledge, the kit and the access to the tooling . Thoughts?

I’d be interested. Curiously, can you use iron if it is not hardened? I still have a little Battleship Texas steel it might be interesting to make into a rink like the one in your picture.

I would be interested

Interested. I’ve been wanting to learn how to apply a wood liner to a metal ring as well as opal inlays.

Sure you can use iron. The sherline wil handle anything that is not hardened. I have turned titanium and inconel on my sherlines at home . It is a lot more work than a steel ring blank but I could help you get there .

I’m interested.

Thanks so much Kevin. I’ll get in contact with you some time soo and we can figure out next steps.

Add me to the interested list! I’ve had this brass rod for ages begging me to make an inlay ring blank out of it.
