Interest Check: Arduino Basics Class, Circuit Board Design Class

  • Arduino Basics
  • Circuit Board Design
  • Both!

If there is interest, I would like to teach a class in either subject! A rough outline of material is as follows:

Arduino Basics

  • Uses for an Arduino (with a demonstration of a personal project!)
  • Different Flavors of Arduino Boards
  • Walkthrough of the hardware (Arduino Uno)
  • Interfacing with the device
  • Basics of programming the device (though not necessarily a class in good C++…)

No materials would be required, this would be lecture style with visual demonstrations.

Circuit Board Design

  • Basics of Eagle
  • Schematic Design vs Board Design
  • Creating custom parts
  • Trace Routing
  • Gerber/g-code generation
  • Sample Demonstration

Attendees would be encouraged to bring a laptop to follow along.

As a potential follow-up, I could also do a class on fabricating PCBs using our PCB Mill. This is what the g-code is used for, as opposed to just generating gerber files.

Hi Zachaq,
I could definitely use a class on PCB mill.
thanks.

It looks like the boths have it!

For the arduino class, yesterday I bought an Uno and a Mega over at Micro Center (They’re running a sale currently, it’s a steal!). I’ll go through both hardware layouts, then walk-through a basic project that anyone who brings their own can follow along with. I’ll have the class scheduled in a couple of days most likely, stay tuned!

For circuit board design, specifically Eagle, I was talking to Rusty at the Embedded Workshop, and I might use next month’s meeting (Sep 23) to cover this material.

@mandra : Concerning the PCB mill, I will likely host a class soon after the one on Eagle, I’m going to practice on the machine some more and make sure I really understand it.
